Health Care Practice
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I’ve been quiet since late spring, early summer - but not idle. I’ve been deeply involved in getting a health care practice up and running. We opened August 1st and I’ve not yet stop.
My community - small if compared to Seattle, but large if compared to Tokeland - was and is still short of about 8-10 primary care providers (that is the estimate by our local hospital CEO). I was working part time in a practice not far from my home. And while it was a great commute (less than 5 minutes!) it was far less than what I considered an ideal practice situation.
Over the years, I’ve had people ask me when I was going to open my own office. My answer had always been “NEVER! Too many headaches!” It started happening again as soon as I started at the XYZ Clinic. “Where else can I see you?” “Do you have another office I can go to?” Pretty soon, for a variety of reasons…I thought why not.
Probably not the best reason for opening a clinic, but knowing how short we were in our community, and being a fairly known health care provider in this community…why not? Thus, I set out to do what I said I would never do…open my own office.
By the way…I did this in less than 6 months from idea to open.
More and more Nurse Practitioners are opening their own practices. While I’ve only been open since August 1st - and it’s been a challenge let me tell you - I wonder why I did not do this before.
This blog is a great way to document what I did, how I did it, what I would do different etc. So stay tuned.
